Wedding Song Checklist
You absolutely need this simple wedding song list template to help you organize your wedding songs for the day.
Good music will make or break your wedding.
If you want to create an atmosphere that your wedding guest will enjoy, you need to choose good music.
I enjoy listening to good music, and for my own wedding, my partner and I selected music that meant so much to us over the years that we have been together.
We were together for 15 years before we tied the knot last year (2020)!
So yes, over the years, certain songs meant more to us than others and we did our best to implement these songs during the best day of our lives.
By doing this, we ensured our guests were entertained throughout the day.
If you want to do the same, make sure you take the time to select music that will do that.
Today, we are going to be sharing:
A wedding song checklist printable you can use to organize your music
A sample list of wedding songs needed for your big day
And how to use the printable wedding song playlist template effectively
Choosing your wedding music
To organize your wedding music, we created this epic wedding song list template that you can use to write down the most important songs.
To make it easy, you need to divide your songs into different categories.
Start by choosing the type of songs you want to be played at your wedding.
What’s your favourite music genre?
Consider your guests as well.
If you have the majority of older people at your wedding such as parents, grandparents, uncles and aunties, listening to heavy metal rock music might not work.
Unless they love it (like me:) )!
If you have kids attending your wedding, you might want to consider them too.
Then make a list of all your all-time favourite songs that you absolutely want to hear on your wedding day.
Next, you want a list of songs that you absolutely do not want to hear on your wedding day.
These are absolutely no-no on your wedding playlist.
You can also request your guests to pick a song each from your RSVPs.
This is a great way to include your guest in the planning process.
Break this down in your wedding music checklist printable that I created, and you will be ready for your big day in no time.

As mentioned, the right music will give your wedding that special ambiance that it needs.
So what exactly is included with the wedding song list template?
1. Wedding Ceremony Music Checklist
The ceremony, in my opinion, is the most important part of the wedding.
This is where you actually get married to the love of your life.
Definitely pick and choose songs that work well together from the time the guest starts walking in until you leave for photos.
You will need the following songs for the ceremony:
- Music played at least 30 minutes before the ceremony to welcome wedding guests
- Processional songs played to signal the start of the ceremony (you need a song for the bridal party and a song for when the bride/groom walks in)
- A song for the signing of the wedding registry (can be the same song you walked into)
- You will also need the cocktail hour music
We recommend grabbing our wedding music list template from the wedding printable shop to plan out your songs.
2. Wedding Reception Music Checklist
The reception is where the real party goes on.
Make sure you are playing good music to keep the wedding guests really entertained.
Typically you would start with some nice background music during dinner.
Ensure your DJ is playing soft background music (your guests should still be able to hear each other during dinner)!
Let your wedding guest enjoy their meal with mellow background music meant to set the mood and create a beautiful ambiance.
The DJ can play background music as your guest enters to be seated and throughout dinner.

3. Additional Music Checklist
Now that those are out of the way, you might need to come up with other songs that will tie everything together.
For example, you might want a find a grand entrance song that will be played as you enter the venue.
You can either have one entrance song for the bridal party and one for when you and your new husband walk into the reception area.
Or you can choose to have only one song for everyone.
Your song can be fun, extremely hype, silly or romantic.
The choice is up to you.
Other wedding songs to consider are:
- Your first dance song
- Father and daughter / Mother and Daughter / Mother and Son Dance songs
- Last dance music which is the last song that ends the reception
And let’s not forget the cake cutting song for when you cut the wedding cake.
You don’t want it to be dead silence.
Did you remember the garter toss song?
And what about the wedding bouquet toss song?
Here are 9 perfect songs for bouquet toss that you can consider.
