Wedding Song Checklist
You need this simple wedding song list template to help you organize your wedding songs for the day.
Every couple I work with has these bad boys in their wedding planning binders.
Wedding planning is not easy.
The more organized and prepared you are, the more your wedding day will be smoother.
This goes for your wedding day music as well.
Good music will make or break your wedding.
It would be helpful if you made an effort to choose suitable music to create an atmosphere that your wedding guest will enjoy.
I enjoy listening to good music, and for my wedding, my partner and I selected music that meant so much to us over the years that we have been together.
We were together for 15 years before we tied the knot (2020)!
So yes, over the years, certain songs meant more to us than others, and we did our best to implement these songs during the best day of our lives.
By doing this, we ensured our guests were entertained throughout the day.
If you want to do the same, make sure you take the time to select music that will do that.
Today, we are going to be sharing the following:

Choosing your wedding music
To organize your wedding music, we created this epic wedding song list template that you can use to write down the essential wedding songs.
To make it easy, you must divide your songs into different categories.
Start by choosing the type of songs you want to be played at your wedding.
What’s your favourite music genre?
Consider your guests as well.
If you have the majority of older people at your wedding, such as parents, grandparents, uncles and aunties, listening to heavy metal rock music might not work.
Unless they love it (like me:) )!
If you have kids attending your wedding, you might also want to consider them when picking out your songs.
Then make a list of your all-time favourite songs you want to hear on your wedding day.
Next, you want a list of songs you do not want to hear on your wedding day.
These are no-nos on your wedding playlist.
You can also request your guests pick a song from your RSVPs.
This is a great way to include your guest in the planning process.
Don’t forget to consider the mood of each part of the ceremony or reception.
You may want to create separate wedding music template checklists for the ceremony, reception and dinner.
Break this down in your wedding music checklist printable I created, and you will be ready for your big day in no time.

So what exactly is included with the wedding song list template?
The music printable checklist is packed with everything you need to organize your wedding songs.
From wedding ceremony song templates to the entire wedding party list template, you will have everything you need to thoroughly plan the songs needed for a wedding to go smoothly.
Make sure to plan everything needed ahead of time!
Consider the length of the ceremony or reception and the number of songs you will need to fill the time.
We hope these tips help you create the perfect wedding song list!
Here is everything included in the printable wedding song checklist:
1. Wedding Ceremony Music Checklist
If you don’t already have one, I suggest using a wedding ceremony music template to note down your music choices.
The ceremony, in my opinion, is an essential part of the wedding.
This is where you get married to the love of your life.
Choose songs that work well together from when the guest walks in until you leave for photos.
You will need the following songs for the ceremony:
- Music played at least 30 minutes before the ceremony to welcome wedding guests
- Processional songs are played to signal the start of the ceremony (you need a song for the bridal party and a wedding song for when the bride/groom walks in)
- A loving song for the signing of the wedding registry (it can be the same song you walked into)
- You will also need the cocktail hour music
All this information can be written and organized in your wedding ceremony song list template!
A wedding music list is a great idea as it will help your DJ or whoever is looking after your music understand what style of music you enjoy and want to be played on your big day.
We recommend grabbing our wedding music list template from the wedding printable shop to plan your songs.
2. Wedding Reception Music Checklist
The reception is where the real party goes on.
Make sure you are playing good music to keep the wedding guests entertained.
Typically you would start with some excellent background music during dinner.
Ensure your DJ is playing soft background music (your guests should still be able to hear each other during dinner)!
Let your wedding guest enjoy their meal with mellow background music meant to set the mood and create a beautiful ambiance.
The DJ can play background music as your guest enters to be seated and throughout dinner.
Use a wedding playlist template to note down some songs you would love to hear during this time.

3. Additional Music Checklist
Now that those are out of the way, you might need to think of other songs that will tie everything together.
For example, you might want to find a great grand entrance song to be played as you enter the venue.
You can either have one entrance song for the bridal party or one for when you and your new husband walk into the reception area.
Or you can choose to have only one song for everyone.
Your song can be fun, extremely hyped, silly or romantic.
The choice is up to you.
Other wedding songs to consider are:
- Your first dance song
- Father and daughter / Mother and Daughter / Mother and Son Dance songs
- Last dance music, which is the last song that ends the reception
And let’s not forget the cake-cutting song for when you cut the wedding cake.
You don’t want it to be dead silent.
Did you remember to include the garter toss song?
And what about the wedding bouquet toss song?
Here are 9 perfect songs for bouquet toss that you can consider.
Other Songs You Need To Add To Your Music Checklist
- Dinner music must-plays
- Music for toasting
- General dancing music must-plays
- Exit Song
- Last song of the night
And there you have it; everything you will find included in the simple wedding song list template!
