Tips for wearing Natural hair for your wedding day

The first thing is that you need to ensure you look after your hair properly. Natural hair is more prone to breakage as it tends to become dry and this makes it more breakable. And if you want your natural hair for your wedding day to look on point, ensuring it is well moisturized can save you a lot of heartake in the long run.

Step 1// Natural Hair for your wedding day plan 1

Drink plenty of water and take your vitamins. In order to keep your hair healthy, you need to be healthy as well from the inside. Drinking lots of water will keep you hydrated and it will also keep your natural hair looking healthy and hydrated. I drink about 8 glasses of water daily and this water bottle ensures that I get the right amount.

I also take women vitamins just to ensure that everything is on point. These vitamins have made me much stronger, healthier and my hair and nails are growing perfectly. I take one per day as prescribed. The biotin in the vitamins ensures that my natural hair and nails are well taken care of.

Step 2 // Natural Hair for your wedding day plan 2

Wash your natural hair frequently! I know most people that are going natural believe that washing your hair will break it, but it will only hydrate it and make it stronger, shiny and healthy. Just like drinking water you need to keep your hair hydrated on the outside too. I personally use co washers to wash my hair and I recommend any of these two products:

As I Am Coconut CoWash Cleansing Conditioner

Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Co-Wash Conditioning Cleanser

We love co-Washers for the simple fact that utilizes a washer and a conditioner a combo that replenishers any natural oils from the hair that is stripped off from using just a shampoo which can be harsh. But if you want to use shampoo then use a moisturizing shampoo to seal in water.

Remember we want to keep your hair as hydrated as possible. Hair that is hydrated will not break as easily. Use:

Karen’s Body Beautiful Ultimate Conditioning Shampoo or

Hydratherma Naturals Moisturizing Boosting Shampoo

Step 3 // Natural Hair for your wedding day plan 3

After washing and hydrating your hair, you want to ensure that your hair is well conditioned and is not dry. We highly recommend conditioning your hair after every wash to keep the moisture locked in. We love these two products when it comes to conditioner.

Eden’s Body Works Coconut Shea Leave In Conditioner

Kinky Curly Knot Today Leave In Conditioner

Step 4 // Natural Hair for your wedding day plan 4

So we have given you the L.O.C method of taking care of your natural hair in order for it to be on point by the time your big day comes around. The l.o.c method is when you use Liquid and a leave in. In this case, washing your hair and using a leaving conditioner.

And then you use an oil based product.  Oils are used to penetrate and seal the moisture. For oils we recommend: Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil by Sky Organics or olive oil.

After adding oil, you need to use something to style. Most people skip this step altogether and it’s entirely up to you. I use and recommend Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil Moisturizing Hair Lotion for this. The C is for cream.

Step 5 // Natural Hair for your wedding day plan 5

We highly recommend treating your hair at least once a month and if you planning to rock it for your wedding day, try to see a professional stylist at least every 3 months as you plan your wedding. For natural hair treatment, we suggest using Shea Moisture JBCO Deep Conditioner and the Aphogee 2 step protein treatment for more intense treatments.

Products to stop breakage:

If my hair is breaking a lot due to weather, or extra dryness, I use Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter Powerful Duo, Deep Treatment Masque. It treats my hair perfectly and I have great results within two weeks of using it. Have it on hand especially if you are trying to get your hair ready for your big day.

I also recommend Cantu Shear butter – Grow Strong leave in conditioner.
