Take your special someone on an adventure of life to experience Switzerland to its fullest.
Here is a list of unique Switzerland date ideas you can enjoy:
1. Take a Romantic Train Ride Through the Alps
In Switzerland, some trains are more about the journey than getting from point A to point B.
This is great for romantics because there are lots of stunning railway journeys around the country for you to choose from.
Since 1930, the Glacier Express has offered scenic rides between Zermatt and St. Moritz.
It’s described as “the slowest express train in the world” for a good reason.
You and your partner will spend eight hours together immersed in splendour as you gaze out of the panoramic windows at the passing Alpine scenery.
Your journey will take you past the elegant ski resort of St. Moritz, through the Rhine Gorge known as the “Grand Canyon of Switzerland,” to Zermatt, with views of the famous Matterhorn.
For the most romantic experience, book the Excellence Class Coach.
There will be no more than 20 passengers in any given wagon!
There is a bar area, and a 7-course lunch is served.
It’s better to prebook your trip at http://www.glacierexpress.ch before arriving in Switzerland.
If you are looking for another great option, the Bernina Express is one of the world’s most scenic train rides.
This Swiss train travels from Switzerland to Italy, starting in the Swiss town of Chur and ending in the Italian town of Ticano (or vice versa.)
Highlights of the route include the Tirano Valley and Lake Poschiao, a view of Lake Bianco (White Lake), the Palu Glacier, the mountain village of Pontresina, St. Moritz, and the breathtaking Bernina Pass.
For the most romantic ride, book the First-Class Carriage with two seats facing each other.
You must book a travel ticket and reservation separately at www. rhb.ch.
2. Book a Date on a Cable Car
With so many romantic things to do in Switzerland, one thing you need to do is to book a cable car.
Cable cars, gondolas, and ski lifts aren’t just for skiers in Switzerland.
A cable car ride lets you skip the heavy hiking and get to the top of the mountain for romantic views, dinners, and more.
One of the best options is the Schilthorn, in the famous Lauterbrunnen valley.
At the summit is the romantic Piz Gloria revolving restaurant made famous by filming the 1969 James Bond film “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.”
It’s located at 2,970 meters above sea level and offers views of around 200 peaks of the Bernese Alps, including the Jungfrau, Eiger, and Mönch.
The cable car operates all year, and you can get discounted fares with a Swiss Travel Pass.
The ride takes 30 minutes and is a thrilling aerial ride.
To get there from Stechelberg in the valley, you will take a cable car via Gimmelwald to Mürren and then transfer to the cable car to Schilthorn.
Make reservations at schilthorn.ch/en/tickets
The Titlis Rotair is another romantic’s dream trip.
It is the world’s first rotating gondola which takes you to the summit from Engelberg.
You can get to Engelberg by car and park at the Titlis valley station, train from Lucerne on the Zentralbahn railway, or take the TITLIS Xpress cable car from Engleberg to Stand station and then on to the Titlis Rotair cable car.
On the five-minute ride up, the cable car revolves 360 degrees for fantastic views at every angle.
Once at the summit, your camera finger will be busy with views of distant snow-covered peaks 3,020 meters above sea level.
You will also find elegant restaurants, shops, and as well as a glacier cave, and a jaw-dropping hanging bridge when the journey ends at the peak.
Tickets can be purchased at the Titlis valley station ticket desks, ticket machines at the entrance, or online at shop.titlis.ch.
3. Spend A Summer Day on a Swiss Lake
In the warmer months, Switzerland’s gorgeous lakes became a popular playground for locals and tourists alike.
Pack a picnic and spend the afternoon lazing in the sun and swimming in Lake Geneva or check out the regularly scheduled ferry-like boat rides from village to village around the lake.
Do not worry if that doesn’t float your boat and you want something else to do, do not worry.
Why not book a romantic culinary cruise to a popular sightseeing spot like the Jet d’Eau?
A night trip when the fountain is lit adds a nice romantic touch.
Lake Lucerne is another famous Swiss lake with shores formed by steep mountains and surrounded by historic towns.
Old towns in Switzerland are a must-see!
Romantic things to do include a train ride up Rigi Mountain, a boat ride on an art deco paddle steamer, and strolling across the Chapel Bridge, Europe’s oldest wooden bridge.
Enjoy the views of the river and the city and try to glimpse the lake from the top of the stone water tower.
4. Find Winter Romance at a Swiss Ski Resort
Even if you’re a nonskier, staying at an exclusive ski resort is a romantic winter thing to do.
Be sure to book your stay at one.
Ski resorts in the Swiss Alps all have dramatic views, cozy cafes and bars, and romantic attractions like horse-drawn carriage rides.
Book a ski resort to ensure you can enjoy breathtaking views every morning.
And if you and your partner enjoy skiing or snowboarding, all the better.
You can find a ski holiday package tailored for you at an all-inclusive hotel, ski to your heart’s content by day, and enjoy romantic apres ski activities like fireside fondue parties at night.
My favourite place to go is Zermatt.
It is a fabulous Swiss ski resort wildly popular with jet-setters worldwide.
Bump elbows with the elite in this picturesque village at the foot of the famous Matterhorn, the mountain on the Toblerone chocolate.
Considered the best winter resort for skiing in Switzerland, Zermatt has three skiing areas, excellent snow conditions, and the Alp’s most longest skiing season.
The village is charming with its historic, carless Alpine village and stunning hotel options.
This includes top-notch spa hotels and resorts where you can while away the evening with your loved one, or get that massage and facial you have been yearning for all year.
5. Wine, Dine, and Shop in One of Switzerland’s Cosmopolitan Cities
A little retail therapy and fine dining can put anyone in a romantic mood.
Cosmopolitan cities like Zurich and Geneva have the world’s most exclusive shopping and dining places.
Zurich’s Bahnhofstrasse is the place for luxury shopping, even if only to gawk at the price tags.
Plus, it’s mainly zoned for pedestrians only, so you can stroll to Bürkliplatz at the end of the lake promenade for romantic views of Lake Zurich.
You will find plenty of fine dining in Zurich, with traditional cuisine perfected with modern influences.
For a truly romantic dining experience, restaurants like the Pavillion on Lake Zurich date back to the 17th century with a softly lit rotunda and floor-to-ceiling windows.
Or, you can try one of Zurich’s rooftop bars at sunset for an even better pre-dinner experience.
Geneva also has plenty of high-end shopping on the block around Place du Molard.
But for a more creative (and affordable) shopping experience, try the side streets and downtown villages like Quartier des Bains to find retro home goods, vintage clothing, and unique jewelry.
Geneva also has no shortage of fine dining.
One of the most romantic is a restaurant near the Cathedrale Saint-Pierre Geneve.
Restaurant Les Armures has a charming medieval atmosphere and a menu entirely in French.
(No worries, the descriptions are in English.)
