Best Things to Do in Montenegro For Couples
If you are a couple looking for romantic things to do in Montenegro, you have come to the right place.
Montenegro is known as a romantic destination with a lot to offer couples looking for a romantic getaway.
Despite the fact that many people have never heard of it, the tiny country of Montenegro rivals some of Europe’s most famous hot spots for romance, beauty and old-world charm.
What’s not to love about it?
Whether your idea of a romantic vacation is action-packed or laid-back, this hidden gem has something for every couple!
Couples should have this romantic country on their travel bucket list because of its stunning natural beauty, rugged mountains, scenic coastline, and picturesque towns.
Montenegro has 300km of gorgeous azure coastline along the Adriatic Sea, which makes it ideal for a summer getaway.
The coast is lined with picturesque towns and sun-drenched beaches where you can stroll around fairytale old towns, soak up the sun on secluded beaches and linger over candle-lit dinners at seaside restaurants.
These are just a few reasons why Montenegro is considered a beautiful destination for couples seeking adventure.
Inland, Montenegro’s dramatic mountain landscapes are the perfect setting for a remote wilderness retreat.
Connect with your sweetheart over hikes through untouched wilderness, thrilling adventure activities, and evenings spent by the fire in your cabin.
In fact, because Montenegro is such a small country, you can enjoy the coast and mountains on the same trip!
It is stunningly beautiful, and Montenegro is significantly cheaper than more well-known destinations like Italy, France and neighbouring Croatia, while offering warm Mediterranean weather and alluring charm.
So if you are looking for beautiful vacation spots for couples on a budget, Montenegro is the way to go.
And because it hasn’t been discovered (yet!), you will find it a lot less crowded and more intimate that some of Europe’s other hot spots.
Montenegro really has something unique to offer every type of couple, whether you are seeking adventurous activities or a more romantic night out.

Romantic Things To Do In Montenegro
Montenegro is considered a romantic destination due to its beautiful natural scenery, historic architecture, and charming coastal towns.
If you’re planning a romantic getaway, Montenegro can be your perfect destination.
Whether you’re looking for a peaceful escape or an adventure-filled vacation, Montenegro offers something for every kind of couple.
Here are the 9 most romantic things to do in Montenegro…
1. Visit Our Lady of the Rocks
One of Montenegro’s top places to visit is Our Lady of the Rocks!
Our Lady of the Rocks is an island church in the Bay of Kotor, voted one of the most beautiful bays in the world.
The Bay of Kotor is a breathtakingly beautiful bay surrounded by towering mountains.
This UNESCO-protected site is excellent for a romantic stroll, enjoying stunning views and fresh sea air.
But the Lady of the Rocks tops it.
It started in 1452 by brothers who found an icon of the Virgin Mary and a child on the spot the church now lies on.
The island and church were built over centuries.
The Venetians most recently modified the church in the 17th century, and today it’s a beautiful Catholic church surrounded by sparkling blue sea.
Stunning enough on its own, the tiny island has the bonus of having Perast, a town of Baroque palaces and ornate stone churches, as backdrops, which makes it even more breathtaking.
Take a romantic boat trip past the stone hamlets of the Bay of Kotor to Our Lady of the Rocks island to explore the church’s frescoes and museum.
Marvel at the natural beauty of Kotor Bay during this full-day speedboat trip.
The boat trip includes a visit to the historic Our Lady of the Rocks Church, exploring the iconic Blue Cave, and you can enjoy free time at Žanjice Beach.
For a truly unique experience, you can even get married in this stunning location!
2. Stroll Perast Promenade
Often referred to as the most romantic place in Montenegro, the tiny town of Perast in the center of the Bay of Kotor is like going back to experience the romance and drama of the Baroque period.
Perast was once full of wealthy shipping merchants, and its seafront is lined with Baroque palaces.
In the scene of rivalries and unrequited love, it’s all too easy to imagine the Perast ladies looking out from their homes’ windows, waiting for their men to come back from dangerous sea voyages.
Wandering the town’s promenade, you can see the grandeur of the town’s former palaces and churches.
Visit the town museum in Bujović Palace to see how the nobility lived and then refresh yourself with some of the bay’s best seafood at Conte restaurant by the sea.
And to make the romance last, stay in the Heritage Grand Perast, a renovated palace transformed into a 5* hotel.
3. Swim at Sveti Stefan
The jewel in the crown of the Budva Riviera, a place famous for its incredible beaches, Sveti Stefan is a 15th-century fortress turned luxury hotel that has attracted film stars and royalty for decades.
Sveti Stefan is so beautiful it was the site of the summer palace of the Karađorđević dynasty.
A leisurely stroll through Miločer Forest and past the former palace brings you to Queen’s Beach, a secluded cove used exclusively by the queen.
A favourite of tennis champion Novak Djoković, Sveti Stefan is the ideal place to spend a relaxed day on the beach in Montenegro.
The islet is surrounded by a crystal clear sea that averages 26°C/79°F in summer and is flanked on either side by unique pink pebble beaches.
You can hire loungers, order drinks, and indulge in a luxury day to spoil yourselves.
End your day watching the sunset over the sea with a candlelit dinner in the neighbouring hamlet of Pržno.
4. Explore Fairytale Town, Kotor
There are so many amazing things to do in Kotor.
The town of Kotor is said to be founded by the Greek fairy Alkima.
And, as if frozen in time, Kotor is just like something from a fairytale.
Spend the day hand-in-hand exploring the narrow alleyways of the pedestrian old town, which dates all the way back to the Roman Empire in the 1st century.
Sip coffee in an open-air cafe that lines the squares and cool off with dozens of gelato flavours.
Kotor old town’s attractions include many ancient churches and fascinating museums.
And for panoramic views of the town and bay, climb the 1355 steps up the old military path to the top of San Giovanni Fortress.
5. Row Your Love Around Lake Biograd
Lake Biograd lies at the heart of Biogradska Gora National Park.
Biogradska Gora National Park is one of the best national parks in Montenegro.
But the lake is a must-see if you are vacationing in Montenegro.
The lake is surrounded by one of only three virgin forests left in Europe, and some of the trees are over 400 years old.
The national park has abundant wildlife, including birds, insects, wolves, deer, squirrels and even bears.
If you are both nature lovers, hiring one of the small wooden row boats is the perfect way to woo your loved one.
Row them around the lake and enjoy nature and solitude.
You might even find this is the perfect place to pop your big question and propose!
6. Take a Wine Tasting Tour
People have been making wine in Montenegro since the 2nd century, and wine-making is the blood of every Montenegrin.
There are over 120 wineries in Montenegro, and the largest, Plantaže, has Europe’s largest unbroken vineyard with over 10 million vines.
If you love wine, you will love the wineries in Montenegro!
Book a wine tasting at a small boutique winery in the Crmnica region around Lake Skadar for an intimate and authentic experience.
The signature wine of this region is Vranac, a dry red with notes of cherry, blackberry, mint and plum.
You can also try other red, white and rosé wines.
Their tastings include rakija, a strong fruit brandy, and traditional cuisine.
7. Enjoy a Seaside Candlelit Dinner
The Montenegrin coast’s Mediterranean climate and beautiful coastline make it ideal for romantic candlelit dinners.
Montenegro’s coastline is dotted with seaside hamlets boasting charming seaside restaurants where you can enjoy an intimate and romantic dinner with your love.
Being beside the sea, these restaurants naturally lean towards fresh-caught seafood, and you’re spoiled for choice with calamari, octopus, and fish, all included in traditional cuisine.
Ćatovića Mlini and Stari Mlini in the Bay of Kotor stand out for quality and beautiful surroundings that won’t disappoint.
Sveti Stefan, Pržno and Dukley Gardens offer great quality restaurants where you can enjoy the romance of watching the sun go down over the sea on the Budva Riviera.
Don’t forget to book a grand tour of coastal monasteries in Budva.
8. Take a Boat Cruise
There are few things more glamorous and exciting than cruising on a boat.
And Montenegro offers plenty of opportunities to do this.
A boat cruise in Montenegro lets you see the country’s stunning coastline, from picturesque fishing villages to secluded beaches and crystal-clear waters.
You can also visit historic sites and enjoy local cuisine while relaxing on the water.
It’s a unique and unforgettable way to experience the beauty and culture of Montenegro.
Hiring a boat and skipper to drive you around is the ultimate way to enjoy a romantic cruise.
Bring some bubbles and ask your skipper to take you to the most secluded beaches and bays for a memorable romantic getaway.
Get your skipper to drop you off at one of the many seaside restaurants, or bring a picnic on the beach.
Go ahead and easily experience the beauty of Montenegro’s natural landscape with this full-day group tour!
9. Stay in a Cabin in an Ethno Village
Ethno villages are a type of accommodation in Montenegro which offer a combination of rural settings among beautiful landscapes and rustic private accommodation.
Ethno villages usually comprise a group of cabins around a central area with a restaurant.
These cabins usually have a deck where you can enjoy the views, log-burning fires and cozy, rustic interiors.
There are also many things to do around Ethno villages if you’re a nature lover.
You will find walks, hikes, lakes to swim in, whitewater rafting, canyoning, horseriding, boat trips, wineries and much more.
Ethno villages are also a great way to experience the culture and cuisine of Montenegro.
They have cozy restaurants which serve traditional dishes made from locally-sourced produce.
You can try specialty cheeses, hearty stews, teas made from locally-picked herbs and traditional juices like mint and pomegranate.
