3. Plan an Intimate Halloween Wedding On A Budget
For Halloween weddings on a budget, keeping your guest list on the smaller side is crucial.
Consider planning an elegant and intimate Halloween wedding to save money.
Being on a budget doesn’t mean you can’t look at elegant Halloween wedding ideas.
You can make your sooky wedding look elegant and expensive by tweaking your budget.
The first, if you are on a budget, is only to invite those that matter.
Doing this will have the most significant impact on your Halloween wedding budget.
Cutting your guest list will reduce the amount you spend on your big day.
The more guests you add to your list, the more money you will need to spend on your decorations and everything else to cater to everyone.
Keeping the guest list small is the best and fastest way to minimize your wedding cost.
You will have fewer mouths to feed, fewer tables (so fewer decorations), and less of everything.
I love the idea of keeping weddings in a more intimate setting, hence the popularity of micro weddings over the years.
As I mentioned, weddings are costly, so I recommend keeping them small and intimate to save.
Those that love you and are part of your day-to-day life should be there to witness your blessing.
Use this guest list planner to create a wedding list for your upcoming Halloween wedding.
You can find many unique small intimate Halloween wedding ideas online to help you plan your perfect day.
Most of these ideas are doable even if you do not have much money.
You must be creative if you are looking for budget Halloween wedding ideas.
With the help of technology, you can live-stream your wedding to include other guests.
This will allow those who could not attend to participate and still be part of your big day.
So go ahead and cut down your wedding list and host an intimate wedding or an elopement for two!

4. Elegant Halloween Wedding Invitations + RSVPs
I typically recommend that my couples notify their wedding guests about their upcoming big day as soon as they have a date.
This is extremely important if you plan to host your wedding around big holidays such as Thanksgiving, Labour Day weekend or any other prominent holidays.
Typically the best time to send out official wedding invitations is between 6 to 8 weeks.
This will give your guests enough time to book it off and confirm their attendance.
Sending your wedding invitations too early is not ideal as they will not know their schedule that far off and usually will not even be able to request time off.
And if they wait to confirm closer, they might have lost the invitation and, even worse, forgotten about the wedding.
So send your wedding initiations 6 to 8 weeks in advance.
But because this is a Halloween wedding, I would say send it off at least 4 months as most people usually make Halloween plans even a year out if this is a tradition.
Or you could send save-the-date cards letting your guests know you will be hosting a Halloween-themed wedding.
The same goes for your wedding vendors that might already have Halloween plans, you want to book early just in case.
Here is a vendor wedding timeline and checklist on when you should be booking vendors.
Create invitations that will get your guests excited about the event.
Follow the guide whether you are looking for small fall wedding ideas or planning an extravagant fall wedding affair.
Regarding the actual invites, your invitations should be the first hint that your wedding will be a truly unique and memorable occasion.
When designing your invites for your Halloween weddings, consider using vellum paper with spooky fonts, or include a small piece of Halloween candy in each envelope.
Choosing Halloween wedding palettes such as tan, beige, black, deep red and orange or adding simple details such as a witch’s hat, broom, black cat, pumpkin, or haunted mansion will give you the cohesive look you need to match all your Halloween wedding theme ideas.
You could even go to hand-deliver your invitations if you want to get into the spirit!

5. Classy Halloween Wedding Themes
It’s easy to come up with Halloween wedding theme ideas.
First, let me say that your wedding theme can be anything you want.
And sometimes, if you are tight on money and planning a wedding on a budget, you might need to tweak that theme a little.
Your theme can be inspired by a season, colour or shared interest with your partner.
Holiday themes are trendy, especially if your wedding date is in and around the time of an upcoming holiday.
If you want something unique and untraditional, a Halloween wedding is just what you need.
But honestly, forget tradition if you aren’t the traditional type.
Many goth, punk and rocker couples marry on Halloween every year.
You can get away with anything.
Go with a medieval theme, a black wedding dress, show off your tattoos, wed in a costume, put on zombie makeup, have a moshpit on the dance floor, and more!
Anything and everything is possible.
Couples looking for creative Halloween wedding ideas on a budget should consider working with themes that match the venue, so they do not need to splurge on extra decor.
Decorations are usually the number one thing most couples want to plan out.
Coming up with all the little fun ideas and details that will set the tone for your wedding day is always exciting.
But if you are not too careful, costs can quickly creep up.
Whether you plan to DIY your Halloween wedding ideas or simply looking for wedding themes for Halloween, we have a few tips for you.
Here are a few Halloween-themed wedding ideas to consider:
- Gothic
- Punk
- Rock
- Masquerade Ball
- Horror-themed wedding
- Spooky Harvest
- Fall Inspired Halloween wedding
- Beauty & the Beast
- Skull themed wedding
- Friday the 13th
- Medieval
- Day of the Dead
- Harry Potter
To keep things within budget, it is always recommended to pick a venue that will set the tone for your big.
This will ensure you work with what you have instead of purchasing more items to make your wedding feel more Halloween-themed.
When it comes to Halloween colour palettes, you will tend to see a lot of black and burnt orange themes going on.
You can use pumpkins and even tablecloths to incorporate these into your Halloween wedding reception.
Other Halloween wedding colours to consider are:
- Tan or Beige + Orange
- Black + Red
- Black + Orange
- Navy Blue, Yellow + Orange
- Deep Purple, Black + Orange
- Burgundy, Black + Gold
These rich Halloween colours are perfect when choosing the palette for your Halloween wedding decorations.
The Halloween wedding theme ideas are just guidelines.
Tweak it to bring your personality as a couple into the theme.
When coming up with simple Halloween wedding ideas, you must consider what wedding theme you want to incorporate.
If you are thinking of a Masquerade Ball wedding theme, grand ballroom, masks for you and the guests, masquerade theme playlist, drapes and floor length table cloths.
When I think of this wedding style, I see it more along the lines of a Bridgeton-styled wedding.
This could be pretty expensive.
Just keep it simple if you are on a budget.
Use all these fall-themed wedding ideas to create and design a unique fall wedding inspired by your taste and style.
Ideas for your Halloween wedding decorations on a budget could be anything you want, from placing your flowers in hollowed-out black pumpkins or skulls instead of vases to decorating your wedding aisle with large black lanterns.

When looking for unique Halloween wedding reception ideas, keep your venue in mind, and see what is already provided.
Use what is already available to you.
Everything else you can try to DIY or purchase.
When it comes to your wedding accessories, there are endless possibilities.
Your Halloween wedding decor can be as simple as you want it to be, depending on your budget, or river the top luxurious because you could save on other things.
For Halloween-themed wedding reception ideas, consider going the traditional route.
You could go for a more traditional look with pumpkins and fall leaves, or you could go all out with skeletons and spiderwebs everywhere.
It’s really up to you!
Just be sure to keep your overall theme in mind when you’re making your decisions.
For example, for cheap wedding centrepieces, I would consider using black lanterns with pillar candles, decorated pumpkins and lots of skulls in several sizes.
Keep it all simple and classy by decorating your wedding reception area with black tablecloths.
Deep red or burgundy would also work.
The head table can have black lace or sheer to give it an elegant feel, and use gold or cream lanterns on the table with white pillar candles!
Single red roses in a few cute assorted vases like these could also work.

A fog machine running during the reception and special dances can set a fantastic tone for your Halloween wedding.
I would suggest you avoid spiderwebs and over-the-top Halloween decorations if you want a classy look.
Using candelabras, lots of candles and antique decor could give you the classy Halloween ambiance you need for your wedding.
If you use black table cloths, your accent wedding colours could be deep red – so think deep red napkins, red votive candles, large red goblets, and long-stemmed wine glasses are great accessories for your wedding tablescape design.
You can also get small skulls to place on each table setting, and large skulls can go on other tables such as your dessert station, guestbook signing table and cake table.
Life-size skeletons also make for perfect decor props.
And finally, decorative pumpkins can be placed strategically throughout your wedding reception venue.
These would also make perfect props that can help produce fantastic haunting wedding photos.

7. Classy Halloween wedding bouquets
Your wedding will not be complete without these Halloween wedding bouquet ideas and arrangements.
I came across stunning and unique Halloween-themed wedding bouquets on Pinterest.
Wedding flowers are an essential part of any wedding, as they add a unique charm and help create the ambiance that the couple wants for their big day.
But flowers, in general, can be costly.
Halloween wedding ideas on a budget can be simplified if you stick to things available during the season to marry.
It’s best to stick to flowers and plants in the season to maximize your wedding savings.
And so, if you are looking for Halloween wedding theme ideas, your wedding will be in the fall season.
If you know me, then you know I love fall weddings.
Aim for dark and gloomy floral for your Halloween-inspired wedding flowers, with touches of dark romance and some pop of colour for dramatic effects.
For your Halloween wedding, colour palettes stick to shades of orange, deep red, burgundy, yellow, purple, and even brown hues.
Some good Halloween flowers are “Black Beauty” roses, Carnivorous cobra lily, black calla lilies, and quicksand roses.
Chrysanthemums are a popular wedding flower popular for making Halloween bridal bouquets.
Don’t forget to ask your wedding florist for cheap fall wedding ideas for your flowers.
They are more knowledgeable.
When working with your florist, stick to these flowers or other in-season florals as they make them a budget-friendly option for your elegant Halloween wedding on a budget.
If you plan a Halloween wedding and are on a budget, a realistic option would be to mix real flowers with other Halloween decor to save money.
Your Halloween bridal bouquet will be gorgeous if you stick to using in-season flowers.
And the more greenery you can add to your bouquets, centrepieces and floral arrangements, the more money you can save.
Gorgeous Halloween wedding flowers, at least for the bride’s bouquet, are a must-have, so don’t skimp.

8. Set the Mood With Spooky Music and Lighting.
There are many great wedding ideas for Halloween on a budget, starting with simple things such as spooky music and lighting.
You must set the mood to ensure your wedding has that Halloween spirit.
No Halloween wedding would be complete without some spooky music and great play on lighting.
Create an impressive atmosphere display for your Halloween wedding using an eerie glow.
Spooky lighting is one of the best Halloween wedding décor ideas to set the mood for Halloween!
It is also one of the easiest ways not to overspend and stick to your Halloween ideas on a budget.
Don’t forget to add some spook to your haunted wedding by playing scary sound effects like screams, creaky doors, evil laughs, and werewolf howls, especially as guests are asked to be seated just before dinner.
You can find hundreds of Halloween-themed sounds to stream or download online.
Discuss these sounds further with your DJ {use this Wedding DJ Music Planner} to take important notes and to plan all your wedding songs.
Create an epic wedding playlist of eerie tunes to set the tone for your reception, and don’t forget to dim the lights!
A professional DJ or band to get your guests in the mood to dance is also a good idea.
A smoke machine on the dance floor would also work perfectly with your Halloween-themed wedding.
Use this Halloween music playlist for some inspiration for your wedding:
- “Thriller” – Michael Jackson
- “Twilight Zone Theme” – The Twilight Zone
- “Werewolves of London” – Warren Zevon
- “Love Potion #9” – The Clovers
- “Main Theme” – from Halloween
- “This is Halloween” – The Nightmare Before Christmas
- “Ghostbusters” – Ray Parker, Jr. from Ghostbusters
- “Monster Mash” – Bobby “Boris” Pickett and the Crypt-Kickers
- “Somebody’s Watching Me” – Rockwell
- “I Put a Spell On You” – Bette Midler from Hocus Pocus
Nothing sets the tone for a wedding quite like great music.
9. Affordable Halloween Menu Ideas To Please Both the Living and the Undead
If you are looking for affordable Halloween-themed wedding food ideas, this is your section.
So what do you serve at a Halloween wedding?
Because you are planning a Halloween wedding on a budget, you must come up with a menu you can afford while keeping guests in mind.
You will also need to ensure that your menu is spooky and delicious if it’s a Halloween-themed wedding!
After all, you want to please both the living and the undead guests at your event!
Serve your guests a mix of cold and hot canapés as they arrive indoors to warm up.
Hors d’oeuvres or stationed buffets help get your wedding guest talking, so do not skimp on these.
One way to add a bit of suspense to your menu is to create “mystery boxes” for your main course.
Guests can choose from various options, but they won’t know what they’re getting until they open their boxes.
Of course, you’ll also want to offer some traditional Halloween favourites, like candy apples and pumpkin pie.
You should be set if you fill your Halloween-themed wedding with fall flavours.
Here are a few thongs you can serve at a Halloween wedding:
Halloween starters and appetizers:
- Butternut squash soup (my favourite)
- Harvest pumpkin soup
- Coconut Curry Butternut Squash Soup
- Pumpkin & Pesto Crostini
- Blood-red gazpacho shots with mini grilled cheese
- Smokey Pumpkin Deviled Eggs
- Antipasti skull platter
- Spooky charcuterie board – black olives, dark grapes, assorted cheeses and cold cuts

Halloween wedding main course ideas
- Blackened chicken with green beans / grilled corn
- Seared Salmon with Spiced Sweet Potatoes
- Brown Butter Butternut Squash Pasta with Pancetta
- Mushroom and Quinoa Stuffed Acorn Squash

10. Serve These Creative Halloween Wedding Cocktails
And let’s not forget about creative Halloween wedding cocktails.
If you are looking for spooky cocktails for Halloween, you have come to the right place.
We have plenty of unique spooky Halloween ideas in this post.
But no Halloween wedding would be complete without some festive cocktails!
Halloween is packed with so many great opportunities to be creative.
And those looking for creative Halloween wedding ideas on a budget should stick to offering simple drinks that don’t cost an arm and a leg.
My favourite Halloween wedding cocktails include the witches brew, Halloween sangria, and the candy corn vodka martini!
Your wedding guests will enjoy these easy boozy Halloween cocktails!
You can view some other spooky Halloween wedding cocktail recipes here.
And don’t be afraid to look for more recipes online or ask your bartender for some ideas if you’re unsure where to begin.
You could even have your Halloween drinks personalized as signature cocktails for your wedding.
Just taste them all before to ensure they are perfect for your big day.

11. Epic Halloween wedding cake ideas
If you looking for great spooky wedding ideas for Halloween cakes, you are in for a scare.
Serving Halloween wedding cake is the perfect way to frighten and feed your guests simultaneously.
I typically dislike cake, but everything is different if it’s Halloween.
The more spooky the cake, the more delicious it looks.
Some cakes might even look gruesome, but they taste delicious!
If your main objective is to stand out from everyone else, having a Halloween-inspired cake is the way to go!
But this also means more money.
And as you know, wedding cakes can get expensive quickly.
Whether you are looking for Halloween wedding cakes with a simple design or with extravagant designs, we always recommend you have a cake and cupcake wedding cake budget before visiting your cake artist.
Wedding cakes usually run a few dollars up if you are not careful.
It will depend on:
- The number of guests
- Your fall cake design & flavours
- Cake supplies and setup elements
A quick wedding budget checklist will help you stay on budget.
For inexpensive wedding ideas for Halloween, you want to ensure your dollars are working for you.
Instead of buying a large Halloween wedding cake, maybe have a simple single-tiered cake for the cutting and serve your guests inexpensive wedding cupcakes.
Another simple Halloween wedding idea on a budget you could use when it comes to cake is to ask your caters if they could remove their cake from the dinner package and allow you to serve your wedding cake or cheap cake from Costco.
Do this only if they reduce your dinner menu costs.
Or you can offer to use the otherwise cake funds to get more food such as the late-night snack.
Check out these classy Halloween-themed wedding cakes or these elegant black wedding cakes for ideas and inspiration.
12. Make Sure to Have Plenty of Halloween Candy for Your Guests
If you are on a tight budget and looking for good ideas for Halloween weddings on a budget, then skip the wedding favours.
This is usually on my list of unnecessary wedding expenses worth not purchasing.
The internet is full of elegant fall wedding ideas, and many of them can feel overwhelming.
If you are on a budget, you can skip out on having wedding favours.
But remember that no Halloween wedding would ever be complete without candy!
This is where you could set up an elegant Halloween wedding candy buffet!
Read this post to learn more about how I set up a beautiful candy buffet.
Keep your theme and colour palette in mind while setting up.
Just be sure to have various options, including chocolate and non-chocolate options.
A few examples are:
- Chocolate
- Candy corn
- Gummies
- Jelly Belly Halloween jelly beans
- Yellow rock candy (use rock candy)
- Orange rock candy
- Hard candy
- Mellocreme pumpkins
- Halloween chocolate mint lentils
- Pumpkin spice malted milk balls
- Twizzlers black licorice bites
- Peach licorice
- Halloween Jordan almonds
You can have a cute sign on the table that says something along the line of:
“Please grab a bag and enjoy a spooky sweet treat!”
If you are not a fan of candy, there is nothing wrong with setting up a dessert table display instead with all your favourite munchies.
Halloween wedding dessert buffet ideas:

So be sure to have plenty of sweet treats for your guests during the reception and as they leave.
Your candy buffet can double as your wedding favours to save money.
And for my pro tip regarding Halloween wedding ideas on a budget, purchase your candy in bulk.
Your sweets can serve as your Halloween wedding favours, so you do not need to get anything else.
An alternative to a candy bar is setting up a cute Halloween dessert table.
13. Plan Some Fun and Festive Halloween Activities
Now that you have sent out your epic Halloween wedding invitations, you have picked out your wedding dress and created a spooky wedding playlist, all that’s left to do is plan some party games for your Halloween wedding.
You’ll need to look for a few creative ideas to keep your Halloween wedding guests entertained.
Don’t be afraid to use some items you likely already have around your house, so you won’t have to spend any money.
A few fun games for Halloween:
- Murder mystery during dinner – Your guests will become characters in a story, and it’s up to them to find out which character is the murderer.
- Halloween Jinx – As guests arrive, let them know there are certain “jinxed” words they can’t say during the wedding. The list of words can have a Halloween theme or be anything else you want, and if someone is caught saying one of the words, set up some lighthearted penalty.
- Halloween photo scavenger hunt – Make a list of items with a Halloween theme that you spot around the wedding reception room. Some options include a carved pumpkin or skeleton Halloween decorations. Then, have your guests take photos of as many list items as they can find throughout the night. The person who finds the most things wins the Halloween scavenger hunt.
- Have someone do a tarot card reading at your wedding. They can provide a spooky reading to your guests.
- Haloween quote icebreaker – Give each guest a slip of paper with part of a famous quote from a Halloween movie. The guests then must find the other person or group of people with slips of paper that complete the quote.
You could also have a spooky photo booth with creepy Halloween props.
To make things even more interesting, you could hire a caricaturist or fortune teller to add to the overall atmosphere of your classy Halloween wedding.
14. Ask Your Guests to Dress Up in Their Best Halloween Costumes
A bonus of a Halloween wedding is the opportunity to request that your guests dress up in their finest costumes!
Wedding guests wearing Halloween costumes is just genius.
Let your guests participate by allowing them to wear Halloween costumes as part of your big day.
This will not only add to the overall atmosphere of your wedding but also make for some great photos.
Just let your guests know the dress code to arrive in the proper attire.
I am sure they are bound to have fun.
And if you are having a masquerade-inspired Halloween wedding, I would provide masks for guests to wear as they arrive.

15. Fun Halloween Wedding Photos
Want to take beautiful Halloween wedding photos?
Then read these.
Couples planning a wedding between late September and November should take full advantage of the beautiful scenery that comes with the fall season.
But remember that the fall season comes with a few challenges, especially concerning the weather.
And Halloween falls around this time.
Not only is the weather unpredictable, but the daylight savings time makes for a shorter period to capture your favourite photos.
Be sure to schedule your Halloween wedding photoshoot in the morning if possible.
This could mean that you end up doing a first look.
Make a shot list of all your desired photos before the wedding, such as detail shots or the treasured dress reveal and share this with your photographer.
And your photographer for suggestions as well.
